MTBO League update.

Last weekend saw the British long Course Championships take place in Dalbeattie and Mabie Forests. Blessed with fine weather and few midges the weekend got off to good start at Dalbeattie. Many thanks to Phil Winskill for planning a series of courses that made good use of the 7 Stanes single track as well as the forest roads. By the end of the afternoon it was clear that all was to play for on the Sunday as the cumulative times would decide the Champions. Only 5 minutes separated the main field on the B course whilst the top three on the A were separated by just 2 minutes.
So Sunday dawned and expectations were high. Mabie forest offered a more intricate network of paths and clearly route choice would be an important factor. The forestry commission had 'kindly ' repaired one of their roads after extensive felling on the western edge of the map. Unfortunately their choice of stones to resurface the road was not compatible with lightweight racing tyres! The fast down hill blast from #7 on the A course turned the race into a 'demolition derby'. With probably a third of the field suffering blow outs it 'blew' the competition apart. If only you had turned uphill and used the dotted path on the right you would have avoided the downhill mayhem and found a quicker route as well! Killian decided punctures were not enough and managed to rip off his front mech leaving a finger sized hole in his expensive carbon frame.
So it turned out to be the those that survived that took the honours. Unfortunately in the women's event none survived so the trophy was not claimed. Andy Windrum proved to be the most robust and took the men's overall Long Course championship honours.
