Alan Hartley in association with PFO staged the Gisburn Hatrick, a weekend of MTBO action at Gisburn Forest.
The weekend consisted of three very different races.
It all kicked off with Middle distance race on Saturday afternoon which provided some intricate navigation and some technical riding that made use of the Singletrack MTB Trails throughout the forest. Having barely had time to get our breath back and refueled we were then sent off into the dark for the first night event to be held for many years. This made use of the lower parts of the forest and used trails that, during the day, are normally out of bounds to bikers.
Fully rested we all returned to the forest on Sunday morning for a Mass start Ultra long event that also counted as the British MTBO Long Championship race. Alan had cleverly gaffled the courses so that each rider was following a slightly different course. However as we had to do a second lap of the forest using different legs everybody ended up doing all of the legs but in different orders. Whenever you saw someone you were never quite sure whether they were in front or behind and you certainly did not risk following them!
Winners of the British Long Championships were:
M21 and Overall Champion Ian Nixon
M40 Andrew Windrum
M50 Tony Brand-Barker
M60 Graham Sellens
W50 and Overall Women's Champion Angela Brand-Barker
All in all an superbly organised weekend of racing on well planned courses. To top it all the weather could not have been better.
If you were not there you certainly missed a good one!
