Inter Club Shield event - after 4 events
Posted: 14/05/23
Hi all, here's a bit of BMBO spam while everyone is riding the high of a busy Sunday of racing both in Wales and Peak District! The Shield League has now gone through 4 events, and we're approaching a busy period with 4 events in the next 35 days! Next 2 events: Oxted (SLOW, next Sunday, May 21) and Quenington (Gloucestershire, Midlands MBO, Jun 4). Hope to see you there!
Hannington was a surprisingly fast and dry course, which Mark Humphrey cleared with an avg speed above 20kmh! Strong showing from SLOW (98pt) which locked the top-6 - with Ian Cartwright and Alan Elder closing the podium. Black Mountains defended the top league position well, with 4 riders on top-15 - with Si only 30pt down from 2nd place - but missing the typical strong score from Ifor, who rode on the day, but didn't make the top-15 due to illness. Ian Daniels took 5 important points for Midlands.
Good numbers on the return to Paradise Farm: 47 riders, with 4 clubs scoring 10+ points. The map area had some big changes, missing most of the Boltby Forest but introducing a much larger area towards the east. Some tricky new sections and big climbs back to base caught a lot of people off guard, with many people getting delay penalties or having to drop big areas. NYMBO secured a big 68pt on the day, but visiting riders stole the top-2 spots. Of course Tom Gibbs didn't get caught out and planned a course to do the worst climbs the "best" way around, and managed a massive 100pt lead. Nuno stole the 2nd place points from NYMBO, with only 1pt more than Conrad Elison. Good showing from the Lakes' neighbours with 3 riders on the top-10 and 35pt -the biggest "away" team haul so far in the League. Mark Rowley took 10pt to keep Midlands in contention ahead of their first local event.
With 4 events now done, the League is quite tight at the top, and only Midlands is missing its first home event. A strong showing (90-100pt) will put them right in contention, but being the more "central" region might put them at a disadvantage from "visiting" riders - so make sure you show up in Quenington for that clash (don't forget the Oxted event before that of course)! SLOW leads Black Mountains by only 23pt, with Lakes MBO 4pt further back and 11 events still to go. Maybe the mud will be gone on the next one?
