Using the SAF for the first time appeared to be a success. I went over the top with tape at the controls to ensure no one knowingly punched the wrong colour. Only two got carried away in the heat of the moment but as they reported this, as requested, no harm was done. I must apologise for my mistake on control 15 which had the right colour on the box but the wrong colour on the tree. I can only blame a senior moment and the young lady and her two girls who had decided to pause their walk right next to the control site!

The strategy of making red worth more than blue and having 28 controls in a small area lead to large scores which seemed to go down well with everyone. Only the top performers on the day may have been a little frustrated by their early clearances.

Congratulations to Ifor Powell, Mark Rowley, Jason Howell and Mark Morgan for their success. Another 6 competitors were over 500 including the evergreen Michael Rackham on 505.

I am glad to report that nothing went missing despite the obvious tape so that will certainly be my standard from now on.
