Event Report
The area covered western sides of the Lower Wye Valley over to the west, Llanishen- Devauden escarpment. The SAF format resulted in considerable climbs for a non-mountainous area! Planning was done to try and minimise tracks liable to extreme mud considering recent wet weather and offer route choices of quiet lanes, harder tracks or...mud. During the week prior to the event I discovered a small landslide onto a RUPP just north of Llanishen which affected a concrete bridge which the path passed beneath so the path was closed to riders for safety. One lane had three extensive flooded sections, still passable but was marked. The intricate path network above Llandogo was difficult to see on the 1:29000 scale map so an enlarged inset was made to help.
50 riders took part with nobody clearing the SAF course, planning designed to require all riders to decide which controls they would leave out (500 max). Congratulations to the winners, Tom Hards with a score of 409, Will Dixon 2nd 396 and Ifor Powell 3rd 395. Top women were Iwona Szmyd 355, Rachel Drew 351 and Nikki Griffin 324.
Congratulations also to the other class winners, the full results and latest league standings after 4 events have also been published and are available via the links below this report. If you notice any inaccuracies, please let us know.
Thank you to the caterers Amanda, Verda and Eleanor for the excellent food, Lisa for map issue also to Ifor, Liam, Si, Ian and Sion who helped collect in the CPs at the end. Fundraising charity donations amounted to £80 for Severn Area Rescue Association, who have been understandably very busy during the recent floods.
Next event is Wentwood SAF on Saturday 4th April. Normal early entry and helper discounts apply.
Once again thank you all for coming and see you next time.
