Event Report
Well, we touted this as the last event before Brexit and that turned out to be a load of baloney. However, what wasn't baloney was the Mugdock SMBO on Sunday 27th. We had 40 hardy individuals sign up to experience 3 hours of riding in our local neighbourhood. It turned out to be gorgeous day and even considering the downpour during the night, most folk came back relatively clean. We had the added bonus of holding it in new digs; the Kirkhouse Inn, a well known local pub. I've had a few personal thanks for the soup and sandwiches, although I need to admit that I had nothing to do with making them.
From the 40 entries we categorised it into 6 different groups, with a prize for first, second and third place. The results should now be live on the system with a points amendment made to 3 Solo Males who were turned away by a farmer bringing in his sheep at Control 21 (worth 35 Points). Some of the other riders managed to get it, so it was only fair to award the points to them. It didn't affect the overall field with Graeme Flett taking first place with a very respectable 350 Points. Solo Female first and second place was only decided by 2 Points in the end, with Rachel Fox obtaining 151 overall to claim the crown. Our Generations winners were Daisy McNamara and Rob Colston, with 160 Points overall. Rob was keen to correct me that Daisy was in fact his granddaughter not his daughter...a compliment to one and possible insult to another. For the rest of the results, please have a gander at them.
There can be something said about the home advantage, and we had a few of our own GMBC'ers claiming some podium places...well done. Unfortnately I didn't get to take part this year, something I'm definitely rectifying next year. However, I did head out the day after the event to collect some of the remaining Controls, and as I hadn't placed them out there, I had the joy of using the maps and locations to find them. It really is something special and immense fun, especially on a beautiful day.
And just quickly, I wanted to say a "big thanks" to the folk who not only helped on the day, but in the background doing various tasks helping this get off the ground...a list quite long, you know who you are. And a big thanks to the participants who have given us positive feedback on social media and sent me personal emails. Ultimately, a big thanks to yourselves for getting involved and taking part. Roll on next year!
