Despite the forecast we managed to start the year off with a dry evening. 12 hours either way would have been a different story!

For the opening event we returned to the Oddfellows Arms at Calbeck where the host, James, made us very welcome and made sure everyone was replenished afterwards.

There is always an uncertainty about whether folk were going to turn out again each year but in the end nearly 60 entries were made. What was even more pleasing was to see large numbers of new faces. Hopefully you all enjoyed the event and will take part in the next event at Cockermouth.

Well done to Phil Blaylock who very nearly managed a clean sweep. The strong South westerly wind made for challenging conditions meaning that the return was always going to be head wind. How far out dare you go before turning back into the wind? The wise amongst you used to the wind to push you up the big hill North of Caldbeck and in a clockwise direction around the map, returning in the relatively sheltered valley bottom.
