Event Report
On the kings coronation weekend CATS MBC went 80 miles out of their area to promote an event on and around The Ridgeway National Trail.
After biblical rain on the Saturday the sun came out for the riders on Sunday. Many of the trails that had been so dry and so fast became bogs or sticky tape tracks over night making the terrain even tougher than just the climbing alone.
After the BMBO payment system being off line so entries were very low, 21 in total but attracting so many of the top riders in the country, it wasn't a case of quantity but rather quality.
M60 rider Ian Cartwright took note of the message on the master map of soggy and avoided the area to win by a clear 37 points scoring an impressive 420 out of a possible 500 with 15 penalty points to leave 405 from M21 rider Edwyn Oliver-Evans on 370 with 2 penalty points to amass 368, in 3rd place M50 Andy Smith made a welcome return to the sport with 345 just 5 points ahead of Nuno Cerqueira.
What was nice was there were no rider who completely over cooked it and had all points lost.
Despite the heavy going, all the feedback from the riders were very positive, even about 2 slightly misplaced controls and the CATS will certainly plan another event there, hopefully with better weather and more riders.
