Forty-four riders assembled in Old Oxted, at the foot of the North Downs, for what proved to be hilly and very challenging course. Six hundred points were on offer across 30 checkpoints, but the course had been set to be (probably) impossible to clear, and so it proved, with the evergreen Mike Rackham coming in with a top score of 439. He was aided by ePower and the first non-assisted rider in was Nuno Cerqueira on 427 and Ian Cartwright on 420. The first woman back was Rachel Clay, riding in a mixed pair, with 300 points, followed by Tracey Freeman and Ella Pyman with 220. The first solo female was Emma Smith with 210. Good food and drink was enjoyed by many in the Crown Inn afterwards, where it became evident that the course had generated many different solutions, with people choosing a wide variety of routes.
