Event Report
Thank you to the 22 riders who came to Ivinghoe to enjoy the beautiful trails around Ashridge, Tring and Wendover! Some new faces and some very pleasant long distance visitors, all enjoyed the challenges of the area: complex navigation around the Ashridge top (good prep for Nationals), a weirdly disconnected set of lanes/BWs near Wendover, and 50pts heavily defended by roots and nettles that grew during the last week. Sorry for that one! We won against the nettles and the last riders reported they had receded. No one complained about the 30C and clear skies, but a full bag of ice and 5L of water were gone from the kitchen. And somehow the 2L of water in the kettle as well!
Impressive number of riders around 19-20kmh, with very distinct strategies. Ian Cartwright took the top spot while running out of food (!!), with Michael Rackam and Stephen Dadswell very close on his toes. Mark Rowley and Sion James completed the top-5 with strong rides, only overestimating the final flat area and coming in very early - they'd have been right up there on the table. I look forward to come back to this area! A special thanks for the tireless (no pun intended) support from Dave Uglow on putting together my first event (I am still running a massive net positive on events run vs organized), who has been collecting thorns on his tyres and had the pleasure of taking one of my spare tubes along for the ride!
