Event Report
Finally the gloom and wet of Spring lifted for the riders to be greeted with a warm, sunny day to explore this quiet and pretty corner of the East Midlands. Not all the mud had disappeared but a couple of late changes to the cp locations ensured rideable conditions, with the undulations of the landscape providing the challenge rather than ground conditions. With many finishing with time penalties, the ups and downs of the wolds-type countryside became a factor in the final standings.
Unusually, off roading was available straight out of the HQ carpark and nearly all took this as an invitation to head north west onto a Roman road and toward Nosely Halls parkland.
Killiam Lomas proved the strongest in the field, clearing 18 of the 22 cp’s in a broadly clockwise route to finish on 391 points. Kevin Horsley M40, Mark Rowley M50 and John Wilton M60, put in strong performances to win their age groups. Alan Shergold M70, Tracey Hinde and James Smith M21, were leaders in their categories. Michael Rackham controlled his battery power to finish with the second highest points total overall and leading e-bike rider.
With the sunshine lasting all day, the riders were able to fully enjoy the outside seating of this great village hall facility, to relax with refreshments and discus their respective routes and of course, what might have been, “if only?” Particular thanks are due to the great catering supplied by Gillian Lamb.
With much positive feedback from the competitors, organisers Rob and Bernie were pleased to be able to confirm that monies raised by the event will be donated to the Air Ambulance.
Cheers Bernie
