Kildale Organiser’s Comments
Thanks to Conrad & Jill Ellison for planning another excellent course, Jens for another excellent map and the helpers as ever for making the event run smoothly – especially the control collectors – Andy, Ray, John, Sam, Paul, Richard, Graham, Patrick, Conrad & Joe.
It was brilliant to ride in lovely summer sunshine on dry tracks again after a dull morning and to see 62 riders on the day – a NEMBOS record. There was plenty of route choice but congratulations to Edwin and Andy for clearing all 30 controls. It was Ed’s first event for a year and Andy lost a pedal on Kildale Moor!! Congratulations to the other category winners – Graham Fielding (M50) 520 only missing one control, Ray Morriss (M60) 471, Angela Brand Barker (W50) 450 and 10th overall, Rik Thompson (M21) 435, Karen Clark & Steve Roberts (X50) 340, Al & Jake Powell (Gen) 245
I enjoyed my ride and decided to clear the southern half in an anti-clockwise direction, so that I didn’t have to ride past the finish, then headed across Gisborough Moor into the forest, back across the moors and back via Lonsdale.
Full results have already been posted on the web page along with the competition map if you couldn’t make it to the event and want to follow anyone’s route.
The next events in both leagues are both 3 hour events with a mixture of forestry and moorland. The NYMBO event is at Thirlby near Sutton Bank on Saturday 22nd June where there will also be refreshments on sale in the sports pavilion. There isn’t a NEMBOS event in July so hope to see as many again at Hamsterley on Sunday 11th August where parking is at the Grove – 2 miles west of the visitor centre
Hope to see you at one of these events or at the social ride at the Smiths Arms, Beckwithshaw on Thursday 27th June.
Steve
Planner’s Comments
I feel a bit of a fake putting these comments together as it was Jill who did all the hard work getting all the off road controls out due to me doing the Swaledale Marathon on the Saturday.
We had fantastic weather for biking – not too hot, gentle breeze and nice dry tracks making for some fast riding. It was great to see so many riders scoring high points and managing to get to both Guisborough Woods as well as a circuit around Baysdale.
We were pleased to hear so many positive comments regarding the tracks and the area. We must say a big thank you to Jens and Steve with their useful tips during planning and many thanks to Kildale Village Hall and the local landowners and agents.
To all riders – thanks for coming and finally thanks to our son Joe who was keen to make sure that people got a prompt start - asking them to clear and check before they’d even registered!
