Event Report
With my usual partner in crime breaking his shoulder while out reccy-ing the area for this event I suspected that we might struggle with manpower for this event, but after being made to feel like a naughty schoolboy for not reading the 25 pages of small print of the hall conditions to find out how to get into the Village hall things soon became more organised after a chaotic start!!!
The area used was new to all but a few of the locals, and the fast purpose built cycle circuit that made up a majority of the course surprised some!! To prevent some super fast times, we also included a few more technical and less pleasant descents at the west end of the comp area. This seemed to add the correct balance, with no one cleared all the controls!
The mixed weather of sun and showers helped to keep everyone refreshed on some of the long climbs and all seemed to return happy, if not slightly exhausted!
With everyone fed and watered it was time for the prizegiving..
Both the Solo and the Team Categories were decided on time taken with Nick Dallimore pipping Ifor Powell to 1st by 6mins, and Janet Burroughes & Matt Jepson pipping Dawn & Steve Stratham to 1st by just over 1 minute!
In the other Cats, Caroline Dallimore made it made it a family success taking Best Female, Best Junior went to Benjamin Stevens on his first attempt at MBO Score! and the Generation Category was won by Julie and Russell Young. M60+ by Nick Hockey with John Parfitt taking M70+.
With everyone departed and the hall cleared it just left the controls to be collected in. By 1830 we were sat in the local pub enjoying a few well earned drinks and some lovely food.....
Thanks to everyone who made this event happen, the competitors, landowners and the hall owner.
We hope to see you all at our next event...
