Event Report
Thank you to all that attended the first BMBO Score event held in the area and hope you enjoyed the amazing scenery. The weather was very kind to us for this time of year and the period of cold dry weather over the past few days made the majority of tracks very rideable on both the Sugar Loaf and Blorenge.
We had a good turn out and 38 of 40 entries took part, with a good mix of both local and riders from further a field. The overall winners were 1st Nick Dallimore 440pts, 2nd Ifor Powell 400pts and 3rd Jon Heissig 310pts; just nudging Graham Phillips into 4th also on 310pts and no penalties but started later. We amalgamated the classes for this event just to keep the competition high and those marks are indicated with a (1st) on the main results sheet.
What was very good to see were the scores posted by those in the middle order. Many were competing in their first MBO Score event and to rack up around 50% of the available points in the type of terrain encountered on Sunday is quite an achievement and bodes well for future events. What was also pleasing was no one got back after the 30 minute cut-off, thus managing to avoid the dreaded ‘all points lost’ rule, well done!
The comments on the day were also very encouraging, firstly from those that enjoyed the area, particularly the scenery and mix of trails and also great to hear from some local riders who had discovered some new tracks they had no encountered before.
The course was set out to offer competitors the option to limit their ride to the Sugar Loaf or the Blorenge mountains, although to rack up a winning score you would need to visit both. The Control Point with the most visits was CP10 with 28 and the least visits was poor old CP18 with 3 and the remaining stats on the number of visits to each Control Point are on the main results sheet:
The event map will be posted on the main BMBO Facebook page and the order that each team completed the course appears after their score on the main results sheet.
As normal with the events we have organised in the past, we lay on refreshments at the end of the event and all we ask for a small donation for out chosen charity. Following Sunday’s event we are delighted to say we raised just over £60 for Tŷ Hafan, a charity that offers comfort, care and support for life-limited children and young people. Thank you.
I would also like to thank the team of helpers - David Thomas on the timing desk, Paul Cuff and Nick Lane on Scores, Eleanor as clothes-line runner and not forgetting Amanda James and Verda Core in the Kitchen, churning out the tea and rolls. Thank you all.
More events in the New Year so hope to see you all again soon.
and finally we had a light battery pack and red head-over left in the HQ, if they belong to you please drop me an email – info@blackmountainsguiding.co.uk and I will post them or bring them to a future event.
