Event Report
Allerdale Bike Challenge 2014 – Ennerdale Bridge
Event 4 and our luck is running out. Despite the Countryfile forecast telling us that the weather would stay fair the rain turned up earlier than expected. Early starters managed the first hour in the dry but then the wind and rain set in and it was a bedraggled group of riders that checked in at the end. Despite that most finished with a smile and once warmed up in the pub it didn’t seem so bad after all!
After the hills of Uldale we promised you something a little easier and most opted to go down the valley and then make use of the railway cycle path to gently gain the height leaving a downhill finish. Of course those in search of the big points had to grit their teeth and get on with it.
Once again it was Richard Wren who gritted his teeth most and finished with the highest score of 180. In 5th place Kate Charles led the ladies home with a very respectable 169, just pipping partner, John Slater. Duncan Stuart was again leading M50 in 4th place whilst Carl “I have never done this before, what do you do?” Bell was first M21 only 10 points behind the overall leader. Watch out once he gets the hang of it!
In the Generation class Lucy Andrews stepped in for twin sister Rosie to generate some family rivalry whilst Pete Leeson and Angela Wakefield were first mixed team and regained their place at the top of the leader board.
With only one event left, remember that it is your best three events that will count in the overall rankings. The final will take place from Bankmill Nurseries at Mawbray. This proved to be an excellent venue last and an ideal place to hold the final presentations.
The Dunes Café serves an excellent range of food as well as snacks and drinks. A VOUCHER is included in your entry fee. If you are wanting to have a meal afterwards please arrive for an early start to avoid disappointment.
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors Buffera and High 5 we have been able to extend the prize list this year and offer spot prizes as well. There are hundreds of pounds worth of prizes to be won.
LOST PROPERTY – a flashing helmet light was found near Longlands after the Uldale event. I will have it at the final event if you wish to claim it.
