Event Report
After the flat lands of Wigton area it was time to get the climbing muscles warmed up again. With Dean moor sitting right in the middle of the map it was inevitable that you could not avoid a climb or two if you wanted a high score. Clever route planning enabled you to sneak up a few of the hills from the easy side but for some it was a case of 'man or mouse'. In the end if was neither that won. Kate Charles had an impressive ride to record her first outright win in the series. Duncan Stewart was best of the rest to record his first win in the men's Challenge.
It was pointed out that when ever we cross the border into neighbouring Copeland then the weather gods decide that we have overstepped the line and pour down upon us. Early riders may have missed the worst of the rain but those who finished later certainly received the wrath of the gods! Next year we are planning a first venture into Eden district so we will see if their gods are any kinder to us.
Many thanks to the Wild Duck for providing us with an excellent venue and keeping us all fed and watered. Some who had successfully conquered the hills on their bike found that they were defeated by the mountainous portions that were dished up afterwards. Doggie bags were a common sight!
Mae's Tea Room in Uldale is always a popular venue and will be hosting the final round on the 20th July. A slightly different twist on previous events from there, but as ever a few hills. As in previous years there will be some first class food and drink on offer and the 2016 prize giving will follow soon after. It is your best three scores to count and there are loads of prizes to be won including some spot prizes. Will you be a winner?
Looking forward to seeing.
Tony & Angela.
